About Fairmount United Methodist Church

In 1889, our church began in a blacksmith shop in Richmond, Virginia. In 1892, as the membership grew, a frame church was built to house the worshipers. By 1914, a cornerstone was laid for the large brick church built on Fairmount Avenue in Church Hill.

On October 8, 1961, ground was broken in Eastern Henrico County for the present day facility. The first worship service was held on June 24, 1962.

In 2004, Fairmount United Methodist Church and Bishop Memorial Methodist Church became known as The Eastern Henrico Cooperative Parish with our pastor serving both churches.

Later Bishop Memorial Methodist Church no longer could hold its doors open and merged into Highland Springs UMC, and thus our partnership with Highland Springs UMC began.

Over the years, our numbers have dropped and we were not sure ourselves what was going to happen to our church. Our sister church, Highland Springs no longer was able to keep their doors open due to other reasons. The two churches met and agreed to merge together in 2025.

As of this year, 2026,, we have merged with our sister church, Highland Springs UMC. We are greatly blessed to be joining together. With this merger, their congregation brought history, growth and love of their own church and combined it with ours.

Each Sunday, Fairmount offers Sunday School for adults, youth and children and a church worship service. Our church service includes a time for children’s church. A nursery is provided. Communion is held on the first Sunday of each month. All are welcome at the Lord’s Table. Our worship service can be in-person or on Zoom.
We offer other events and special services throughout the year. Please check our social media or event tab for more information.

As disciples of Christ, we endeavor to live by the words of God and Christ. If you do not attend a church that enriches your life, or just don’t have a church, we invite you into ours. There is always room for more and our doors are open to all, come as you are and we will welcome you in.
